Kids urged to register to recreation ball season

Baseball, softball and tee ball seasons begin in March. Registration concludes Friday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m.

Children ages five and six before May 1, 2006 will play tee ball. Girls whose ages are between seven and 17 before Jan. 1, 2006 will play softball.

Boys whose ages are between seven and 17 before May 1, 2006 will play baseball. Registration forms including information will be available online at www.becrd.com.

USA Baseball™, the national governing body of baseball in the United States has changed their age control date for youth baseball beginning in 2006 to prior to May 1. This means, whatever a child’s age is on April 30 will be their playing age for the year.

The Georgia Recreation Parks Association state athletic committee, which oversees athletics and rules in the state agency, voted in 2005 to change the state agency’s age control date for baseball to coincide with that of the national governing body. The Blakely-Early County Recreation Department will be using this date in 2006 to determine in which age group a boy can play baseball. Parents are asked to make a note of this change which is now in effect.
