Disturbing land? Better get certified!

It is estimated that approximately 10,000 more people involved in land disturbing activities across the state need to be certified before the Dec. 31, 2006. Nearly 13,000 people have already been certified.

The 2003 General Assembly passed House Bill 285, which requires persons involved in land development, design, review, permitting, construction, monitoring, inspection or any land-disturbing activity to meet specified education and training certification requirements.

Through the combined efforts of the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission, the Environmental Protection Division and the Stakeholder Advisory Board, a tiered system of training courses have been developed and targeted to each specific audience.

Certification courses are being held throughout the state. A schedule of upcoming courses can be found, at www.gaswcc.org. Contact the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission's Education and Certification Program at 706-542-1840 for additional information.
