Georgia Southwestern State University academic achievement list recognizes students each semester who are in academic good standing, have previously earned at least 15 hours of credit at Georgia Southwestern, are enrolled in 3 to 14 hours of credit and who earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Laurel Houston Foreman of Leesburg, Ga., has been recognized by Georgia Southwestern State University for this achievement. Laurel is currently completing her student teaching experience at Lee County High School in Leesburg. She will graduate in May from Georgia Southwestern State University with a bachelor of science in English with secondary education certification.

Laurel and her husband, Shaun Foreman, who was nominated as sixth grade teacher of the year at Southside Middle School in Albany, are both graduates of Early County High School. Laurel is the daughter of Cynthia and Joel Houston of Blakely and the granddaughter of Anna Mulkey and Marcelle Houston of Blakely.

Georgia State

Joshua Ryan Watson of Atlanta earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Georgia State University in December 2010. Joshua graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 and was accepted into the College of Education at Georgia State where he will pursue his master’s in English education. He ultimately plans to obtain a Ph.D. in education and teach at the college level.

Joshua is the son of Lonnie and Marianna Watson of Atlanta. He is the brother of Trey Watson of Munford, Tenn., and Mandy Chapman of Blakely. He is the grandson of Anna Mulkey and the late George Mulkey, Mickey and Janette McDonald and the late Eugene Watson, all of Blakely.
