Spelling bee winners announced

Eighth grader Tynicia McCoy took first place at the county-wide spelling bee Feb. 8 at the Early County Middle School. There were 10 contestants and five alternates competing.

The following were contestants: fourth grade, Pacey Huckaby and Katelyn Williams; fifth grade, Ashley Terry and Dallas White; sixth grade, Trey Brownlee and Anissiya Bethel; seventh grade, Ma’Quayla Mitchell and Quantavious Grant; and eighth grade, Hannah Strickland and Tynicia McCoy.

Atlernates were Corbin Smith, Zelena Granados, Ivy Tarver and Shabreka Sparks.
