County extends Longleaf agreement

The Early County Board of Commissioners extended its tax agreement with Longleaf Energy Associates at its Feb. 7 meeting at the County Annex to Dec. 31, 2012, for the power plant project.

The commissioners heard the first reading of a resolution enabling the county to invoke home rule powers allowing a contract with SGRITA to provide wireless Internet services.

The board approved a recommendation by the Development Authority to give a quarter acre of land in the Industrial Park to SGRITA to locate a building for equipment.

The commissioners approved continued discussions with Bainbridge College for additional acreage for the college’s expansion needs.

Lisa Collins reported EC 2055’s economic development efforts, including working with MEAG to identify best fit companies for Early County, and business retention and expansion efforts, stating there were nine prospects with two completed projects and one ongoing.

The alcoholic beverage license for White Oak Pastures was renewed and the commissioners were asked to participate in the Peanut Proud parade.
