Lady Cats headed to the playoffs

The Early County Lady Bobcats softball team, coached by Tommy Holloman and Hayley Knight, secured a place in the playoffs for the first time in six years when they defeated Thomasville Oct. 2.

The Lady Cats won a region game against Pelham Sept. 23 with a score of 17-2. Two days later, they suffered a tough loss of 2-0 against Berrien County.

Friday, Sept. 26 they played a makeup game against Seminole County with another loss of 7-4, with senior Connor Weaver hitting a home run.

Fitzgerald came to Blakely Sept. 30 and went home with the win. The Lady Cats next faced Miller County at home and won 8-0.

Thursday, Oct. 2 the Lady Cats traveled to Thomasville and got a big win, 14-0, securing the spot in the playoffs. Junior Kenley Kennedy hit a home run. Monday, Oct. 6 was Senior Night at the Ray Knight Sportsplex and even though Saint Anne Pacelli of Columbus decided not to face the Lady Cats again, the senior players were recognized. They are Connor Weaver, shortstop, and Morgan Johnson, outfield.

The Lady Cats travel to Jeff Davis High School in Hazelhurst to begin playoff play Wednesday, Oct. 15.
