Qualifying underway

Qualifying is underway this week for candidates for mayor and two city council posts for the City of Blakely’s Nov. 3 election.

Mayor Anthony Howard has qualified for re-election to a second term. District 1-Post 2 incumbent Margaret Wimberly serving an unexpired term, has also qualified.

Nobody has qualified for District 2-Post 2 which is now occupied by Andy Smith, who told the News last week he would not be seeking a fourth term.

Candidates must qualify at the office of City Clerk at Blakely City Hall. Qualifying fees: mayor - $108, city council - $72. Qualifying closes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.

Qualifying is also underway in Arlington for candidates for city council posts 1, 2 and 3. Qualifying is also underway this week in Damascus for one at-large city council seat.
