Drug bust

Failure to obey a stop sign last week led to two suspects being jailed Thursday on illegal drug charges.

A Blakely police officer made a traffic stop when he observed a Mercury Moutaineer fail to stop for a stop sign at MLK Jr. Blvd. and U.S. 27.

The driver could not produce a driver’s license and provided two different spellings of her name. A passenger in the vehicle was in possession of a container containing different types of prescription medication. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.

The driver, eventually identified as Marjorie Turner, 53, who is wanted on an Arizona warrant, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine, providing false information running a stop sign and driving without a license.

The passenger, James Shellhouse, 46, of Blakely, was also charged for the unlawful possession of a schedule II medication.

Both subjects were arrested and later booked in the Early County Jail.
