Excitement in the air

Chamber Notes & News
Cecelia Bostwick

There’s something about the new school year that puts excitement in the air for the entire community! This year is certainly no different.

Our Bicentennial monthly celebrations have been most enjoyable — and this month is no exception thanks to Alida Ward, Tim and Colleen Roberts and, of course, Julie Jarrett. If you haven’t visited the “Don’t Be Square: Visit Your Homegrown Artists” exhibition, you have missed a treat. The old Moore’s store windows are beautifully displayed with great work done by artists and craftsman who have roots in Early County.

The Blakely Early- County Chamber of Commerce has a Bicentennial project and we need your help. A great team is working to gather stories from Early County families — short anecdotal stories that capture the fabric of families during the last 200 years. The beliefs, the traditions, culture that was handed down and made us who we are today. We are calling the book: Our Homespun Heritage. Please email your stories to info@blakelyearlycountychamber.org — or mail to or drop the stories by the Chamber at 214 Court Square, Blakely, GA 39823.

Want to learn more about using social media for marketing and branding? Well, get ready to have some fun. The class will be held Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. and end at 12 p.m. Cost of the class is $20 for Blakely- Early County Chamber members and $25 for non-members. Erika Holmes will be teaching the class. She has a marketing degree and specializes in social media. You will need to bring your iPhone, laptop and/or tablet. Enroll in the class as soon as possible since the class attendees will be limited. For more information call the Chamber at 229- 723-3741 or email info@blakelyearlycountychamber.org.

Vendors get ready — we will kick-off First Thursdays Sept. 6. We want your crafts, homemade items, plants — anything you want to sell that is legal. Retailers — start planning your First Thursday sales. Let’s make it the best yet!

There are many more events on the calendar — so make sure you check out the Chamber Notes and News for next month!

Have a great week, be kind and stay positive!
