Herbert Sims


Herbert Edge Sims, 86, of Blakely, Ga., passed away Jan. 1, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Sims was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Troy, Ala., to the late William Herbert Sims and Laura Frances Carter Sims. He was the owner/operator of Sims Manufacturing Company and was a member of Blakely Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 through 1954 and served on the USS Missouri Battleship.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter at birth, Cynthia Ruth Sims; and a sister, LeMay Sims Merritt.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pickeral Sims; two daughters, Judy Sims Enfinger and Johnny of Blakely, and Janet Sims of Cordele, Ga.; a son, Gary Sims of Blakely; a sister, Ann Sims Stone of Blakely; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Blakely Church of Christ with Danny Brewer and Sam Cook officiating. The United States Navy Funeral Detail members folded the flag and presented it to Mrs. Sims at the close of the service. After the service, the family and anyone else who chose to went to the Blakely cemetery as the family had a prayer at his burial site. The family will received friends in the sanctuary from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Kindred Hospice, 432 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, GA 39819, or to your church or favorite charity.
